Camp Counselor – Summer 2024

The Westwood Recreation Department invites applications for Summer Camp Counselors to assist with Camp, Sports, Preschool, and Theater. Counselors will guide participants, ages 3-14, in program-designed activities and will be responsible for the general safety and skill development of participants in their group. Work is performed under the direction of the Program Supervisor, Camp Director and Program Manager. Counselors strive to provide participants with high quality recreational experiences which focus on the Department’s core values of safety, fun, responsibility and respect. Summer 2024 is sure to be fun!

Counselors are needed in the following designated areas:

Camp: Help to create positive experiences for camp participants ages 5-14. Lead program activities including games, crafts, sports, and more. Per state regulations, Counselors needed for this area must be a minimum of 16 years of age.

Sports: Demonstrate skills and knowledge in a variety of sports. Experience playing and/or coaching a sport is essential. Counselors must be a minimum of 15 years of age.

Preschool: Summer fun with the little ones for participants ages 3-5. Enrich the children’s day with games, crafts, music, and creative play. Counselors must be a minimum of 15 years of age.

Theater: Join our team and help lead a cast through the process of putting on a musical production from audition to rehearsal to final performance. Counselors must be a minimum of 15 years of age.

Qualifications and Experience:

• Experience working with groups of children.

• Attendance at all required staff trainings.

• Certified in First Aid, CPR/AED (Westwood Recreation offers convenient staff classes for a fee).

• Skill working with children of varying ages, backgrounds, and abilities.

• Excellent communication skills.

Summer 2024 Schedule Commitments:

Pre-season Staff Trainings: Evenings during the week of June 10 (exact dates TBD)

Work Commitment: Monday – Friday, June 24 - August 9

Additional Camp Weeks (Optional): August 12 - 23, 2024

Salary and Benefits: Seasonal, non-benefit position. Starting rate is $15.00 - $16.00 per hour.
