Camp Activity Specialists (Art, Nature, Sports, STEM) -- $17.00 per hour

The Westwood Recreation Department seeks passionate and responsible individuals for the 2024 seasonal position of Summer Camp Activity Specialist in the fields of Art, Theater/Dance, S.T.E.M., Nature or Camp Games. The Camp Activity Specialist is responsible for designing a curriculum in their area of expertise, presenting it to staff in the pre-season, and, when Camp is in session, leading age-appropriate activities for each Camp group at scheduled times throughout the day. When not leading specific activities, the Camp Activity Specialist will help with the general administration of Camp. The position calls for limited pre-season work and is full-time during the weeks that Summer Camp is in session.

We are selecting a limited number of specialists with the following areas of interest:

• Arts & Crafts
• Theater & Dance
• S.T.E.M.
• Nature
• Camp Games & Fun

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following:

• Lead age-appropriate activities in your field of specialty for each Camp group; participant age groups range from Kindergarten - 8th grade.
• During the pre-season, create an activity curriculum pertaining to your area of interest.
• Present your curriculum to the Camp Director and Program Manager before the start of Camp in order to assess curriculum strengths and areas that may need adjustment.
• Manage materials for your activities, including initiating requests for supplies when necessary.
• When not teaching a specific activity, assist with the general administration of Camp, including drop off/pickup, special events & lunch time.
• Communicate effectively and appropriately with staff, campers and parents/guardians.

Qualifications and experience: A minimum of 18 years of age. Experience working with children, preferably in a Camp setting, and experience in a special area of interest. Attendance at all required staff training sessions. First Aid, CPR/AED certification is required (certification opportunities are available). Ability to work with children of varying ages, backgrounds, and skill levels.

Schedule requirements: Pre-season hours may be done remotely. Mandatory staff trainings week of June 10^th (dates TBD). Work commitment when Camp is in session: Monday - Friday, June 24 - August 9, 2024 (No July 4th).

Salary and Benefits: This is a seasonal, non-benefit position with a starting hourly rate of $17.00.
